The health care law requires insurers to cover new preventive health benefits for women at no additional cost. The women’s preventive services that are covered without cost-sharing requirements include:
-well-woman visits
-gestational diabetes screening for women 24-28 weeks pregnant and high risk
-STI counseling
-HIV screening
-contraception (certain religious organizations are exempt)
-breastfeeding support, supplies, and counseling
-interpersonal and domestic violence screening and counseling
Visit HRSA for a chart on frequency and health coverage guidelines.
*Please note that health insurance under a grandfathered plan might not get these benefits. If there is any difference between the information on this website and your health plan, your policy’s provisions will apply.
