While many of you are probably familiar with the terms HMO and PPO, we have been getting many questions about EPO.

What is an EPO? An EPO is an Exclusive Provider Organization plan. As a member of an EPO, you can use the doctors and hospitals within the EPO network (no referrals required), but do not have an out of network benefit.
HMO Plans: Health Maintenance Organization plans require you to choose a primary care physician (PCP). A referral to see a specialist is required from your PCP. This plan is ideal for someone who does not want a deductible and does not mind obtaining a referral to see a specialist.
PPO Plans: Preferred Provider Organization plans PPO plans have both an in network and out of network benefit. You can self direct your healthcare and go to a physician or healthcare provider without first requiring a referral from a primary care physician. This is ideal for someone who does not want to have to get a referral before seeing a specialist, wants an out-of-network benefit, and more freedom of provider choice.
