The health insurance marketplace will have four levels of coverage available for you to purchase: platinum, gold, silver, and bronze. Each of these metal levels tell you the percentage of health costs the plan covers. This is also commonly referred to as actuarial value.
Platinum 90% coverage
Gold 80% coverage
Silver 70% coverage
Bronze 60% coverage
In each metal tier you will have several different plan options to choose from. There will also be different networks, carriers, and services.
Before selecting a coverage level you should consider your entire health care out of pocket costs including premium, coinsurance, and deductible.
While the bronze plan has the lowest premium, if you have frequent visits to the doctor you might pay more for your total health care costs than another metal tier.
