The answer depends on when and how you purchased your health insurance plan.
Grandfathered plans or plans enrolled in prior to March 23, 2010 may have the option of keeping coverage. All plans purchased or changed after March 23, 2010, are considered Non-Grandfathered. While grandfathered plans are exempt from certain health care reform provisions, non-grandfathered plans must comply with all health care reform mandates. Non-grandfathered plans that are purchased in the individual or family marketplace, must change their plans effective January 1, 2014. Groups with non-grandfathered plans must switch at their renewal in 2014.
Please note that not all carriers chose to grandfather their plans. You can call membership services on the back of your ID card to find out if your plan is grandfathered.
