1. Stay in the network: You can check provider networks through the online carrier directories. Make sure to set your plan or enter your ID number before searching. Some carrier’s individual networks vary from group networks. If you are traveling you can call the number on the back of your ID card for assistance with finding the nearest in-network provider.
  2. Register online with your insurance company using your ID number: Go to your insurance carrier’s website and register as member to utilize a number of useful tools. Through the member portal you can find/rate doctors, estimate your cost, check claim status, track your deductible/out of pocket maximum, view discounts, and more.
  3. Make sure you pay providers the correct amount: Check your member responsibility by matching the EOB you receive from the carrier to your doctor or hospital bill. You can view EOBs through your member login, mailed EOBs, or by calling your carrier.
